3 THOUGHTS ON “Student loan debt can’t be forgiven, only transferred”
Whatever debts I may have had along those lines were paid off a l-o-n-g time ago, because I busted my butt, worked all the hours the bosses would allow, and denied myself things like bass boats, ATVs, and better than basic brown liquor.
If Gropin’ Joe wants ME to pony up for the Urban Basket Weaving and Comparative Drug Use in Modern Society college degrees that all the woke children seem to have these days, then I’ll just stop paying any more taxes.
Seriously, with my worsening health and advancing years, let them throw me in jail. Let them try!
IIRC, some Dems somewhere, some years ago decided if you could be in the military and go fight, maybe die for the country, then it was only fair to move the voting age down to 18.
That implies that age 18 is now the demarcation for adulthood, a time when the ‘student’ is assumed to be mature and responsible.
Age 18 is when most people enter colleges and universities. They are by law adults.
Ergo, being adults (just ask them – they know everything) they should have sense enough not to encumber themselves with a debt they cannot pay back because they choose a field of ‘study’ that has no employment prospects or if it does, does not pay nearly enough to allow independent living and simultaneously retire the debt.
Even if the ‘student’ is naive, where were the parents?
These gold-digging party bums and social justice warriors who want the label “Prestigious College” but don’t want to work hard and take a demanding and useful course of study get no sympathy from me, and neither should they get any money from me, a taxpayer who paid his own way through college and took a course of study that was difficult so I could earn a good living.
I once had a youngster proudly tell me he was majoring in Social Justice and Economic Justice.
Here’s some Economic Justice for him and his snowflake ilk: Let the ‘students’, their parents and the colleges who let them ‘study’ the overpriced, worthless bilge and crap of Social Justice, Education and Angry Studies sort it out among themselves, and those with govt loans…..well, we are getting 87,000 new IRS agents. Let them go visit these bums and garnish the wages and seize the assets of those who renege on their loans like they do to small businesses who can’t pay taxes. If the parents cosigned, seize their stuff too.
Let’s have Equal Justice Under Law once again.
My kid has been paying his loans even during this awful time. It ticks me off he will also be on the hook for some deadbeat’s loan as well.
