The View host calls traditional Latin Mass extremist, cult like,
comparable to religions in the Middle East
Look, I have no dog in this fight
(non-religious and anti-religious are entirely different things),
but this sounds an awful lot like anti-semitic-style bigotry
and probably for the same reason:
so Islamist theocratic tyrants
and Commie a-theocratic tyrants
will slaughter them last

Some people are say it’s hateful regarding Catholics; some people are saying she’s dumb for not knowing that Christianity IS a religion from the middle east; some are saying it’s antisemitic;
I’m surprised that what she’s saying is that maybe The Religion That Must Not Be Named is extremist and cult like.
It’s kinda funny how she’s so stupid you can’t quite figure out exactly what sort of insult she meant.
Did she mean Judaism? Islam? Baal? Mithraism Copts?
Yeah,
but I’d be most worried about ’em Zoroastrians.
Sneaky buggers’re keepin’ a low profile,
so they’ve been off the radar, lately.
i’d be on the lookout for the Pastafarians in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

Doug: I shared this toon with others, and one asked about the difference between the original story referring to the Middle East, and the toon referring to Middle Earth. Was the Middle Earth bit a glitch, or a riff on believing in fantasy and things that don’t actually exist? (Though the Middle East is more of a nightmare than a dream…) TIA
*heh* (Who reads my nonsense?)
I was just trying to use as much of the source headline text as possible,
mainly to make the connection obvious,
and “East” didn’t make any sense in this case.
East and Earth are pretty close textually.
No substance or hidden meaning was involved,
other than a weak fantasy/witches thing.
Makes more of a connection upon reading it than it did while writing it.
(Also, I’m not a fan of Tolkien)
I didn’t read it that closely, I didn’t even see the return of my favorite header!
