At the intersection of grift and graft.
I wonder if they’ll impeach Trump a second time if he tries to get to the bottom of the Ukraine corruption.
With the twist that it’s GOP folks who don’t want that rock uncovered.
Zelenky is not the brightest knife in the drawer. Or, he’s the most protected politician on the planet. I mean, come on, “Yeah, we received 200 billion dollars but can only account for half.”
Of course, MSM did their best Captain Renault at the revelation.
It seems to me, that if Zelensky were pocketing great portions of the “missing” U.S. handouts, unless he’s a total moron, he would have figured that he’s stashed enough away to live comfortably somewhere where Uncle Sam will leave him alone and already be headed into “retirement”.
As to who owes what to whom, I see it this way. Zelensky and Trump sit down over adult beverages at Camp David. Trump presents a “shopping list” of needed minerals, which would include how much we want and what value the U.S. puts on each delivered unit. Zelensky counters with what value Ukraine puts on said commodities, and maybe how much of a “broker’s fee” he expects to be deposited in a numbered Swiss account. They talk, they drink, maybe they have a fine dinner. Then Zelensky drops his bomb: unrestricted NATO membership for Ukraine.
Trump gets the minerals he wants. Zelensky gets his retirement plan fully funded. Europe gets another well-armed buffer between the E.U. and the Russian Bear. Everybody’s happy.
It’s the Art of the Deal.
The addition of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to NATO put NATO right on Russia’s border with no buffer in between. I believe it was the prospect of Ukraine NATO membership, putting another NATO country on Russia’s border, and a weak Biden administration that prompted the ever paranoid Russians to attack Ukraine. Since the start of the war, Finland has joined NATO removing another buffer.
Imagine how we’d feel if Mexico and Canada were part of the USSR.
See: Cuba
For sure that was bad enough, but at least the Cuban Russians couldn’t walk over the border, their missiles there at the time couldn’t reach all of the USA, and they had fuckall in technology and manufacturing capability that didn’t arrive by ship.
Yep,
’62 was an intense news-watching time, back in high school.
Remember “Duck and Cover”?
Doug, I recall doing “Duck & Cover” in elementary school in the very early 50’s, and have a vivid memory of a bunch of guys sitting in my dorm room at university listening to JFK’s speech in October 1962 about the Cuban missiles, wondering whether we’d all be drafted the next day or else vaporized by a nuke on DC just a few miles away when he said an attack from Cuba would be regarded as war with the USSR.
