Whenever I see a story about someone having to defend themselves and killing someone, I think of how horrible it must be to have to kill someone.
Lots of people are going to find out it looks much easier and less traumatic on TV, not so much in real life.

The operative words are “have to.” That outcome was selected by the perpetrator, not the intended victim. The particular point is not necessarily the feeling of remorse and sadness, but that one is still alive to feel it.
Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit has mentioned over the last few years, paraphrasing, “Cops exist to protect criminals from citizens.”
By the way, I absolutely loathe the “It’s just stuff” argument for defending against someone stealing. Here’s a clue: We are on this planet for a finite time. During that time, we spend the irreplaceable, our time on this earth, to work in order to have a comfortable life. Theft of an object is not just loss of the object, it is also theft of that time it took to acquire said object. Which means one has to expend more of that which cannot be purchased to replace that which can be purchased.
And, our old criminal justice system seemed to understand that, because restitution was something criminals were expected to do.

It’s easy for Mayor Wu to say that, as she has a 24/7 police security detail assigned to her.
I think she should put her money where her do-gooder mouth is and dismiss her security detail and live with a de facto gun ban and protect herself with her only her tiny fists and strongly worded memos like the hoi palloi in blue states.
Then let’s see what she says when she and her kids come home to be confronted by three or four thugs ransacking her house.
No doubt she’ll give them cookies and wish them a nice day.
The woke Left needs consequences, fast, harsh physical, financial and legal consequences for their actions. It’s the only hope to awaken them to reality and preserve a functioning civil society.
Depending on how sporty things get, her police detail could abandon her if their families are threatened.
I wish they would do that tomorrow in protest of her Pollannish stupidity.
