* History Note: LS4 was SLC-4W, back in the day, where I spent
my first USAF posting launching TitanIIIB/Agena NRO satellites

I have a dear friend who worked on the Titan program, if I remember correctly, at Vandenberg. Engineer, very smart man. Slide rule guy too.
He was/is a second father to me.
My TDY to Vandyland was fun, our bird (MM II) was the only one that year on time/on target. We had to hold for four hours because some Islander was in labor and had to be evac’d but it was a great launch.
BTW, sitting in a culvert 100 yards away from a live launch was, uh, Fun and Exciting. We exited the redoubt just after we heard the missile clear the launch tube and watched it skedaddle downrange.
A helluva lot more fun than freezing our asses off (it was in October/November) doing maintenance on site(s) in Beautiful North Dakota…
Cool!
Nice that TDY to ol’ Vindanfog AFB got you out’a ND for a while.
Back in the ’70s, MM launched regularly from VAFB;
and we’d all stumble out’a the BOQ or OClub to watch
when we heard that awesome roar, even from many miles away.
Calif SpaceX launches.
Did USSF have words with the CCC, or are these ‘previously scheduled’?
Dunno, but I expect the launches didn’t violate the CCC’s proposed new limit.
Among other things, I think the CCC was reminded of its place in the food chain by a number of major players.
I’m guessing what happened was sort of like when Newsom decided Diablo Canyon needed to be shut down. The FedGov stepped in and told him, “No.”
Probably some national security implications and the FedGov had another chat with Newsom.
I think the phrase is:
Don’t do somethin’ we’ll both regret, pardner
